Christmas Boutique

Christmas Boutique

This wonderful and much loved event allows each Durham Elementary School student an opportunity to buy Christmas gifts for their families.

This is a during school hours event.

Your child can bring money to school on this day to pick out a special gift.

This DES event has been a well loved tradition for many, many years! Each and every student will have an opportunity to purchase a Christmas gift for all the special people in their lives. Our community donates new (or like new) items for your child to consider and special volunteers will be there to help them choose just the right thing. Gifts will be wrapped in class and brought home before Christmas to go under your tree.

What is the Christmas Boutique?   This event is for students to purchase Christmas gifts for a total of 5 family and friends. We set up tables overflowing with options for the students to shop with the help of volunteer ‘elves’. Each item will cost approximately a $1 but every child will receive change as a result of the power of Christmas miracles.

What kind of items are available to purchase?   There will be a mixture of newly purchased products as well as donated new and used items. We aim to have gifts appropriate for all genders and age ranges.

What can I donate?   We love donations! Here’s a few things to note: new or gently used items only. Crafted or homemade items are wonderful! We are always looking for items for dads/grandparents/teenaged brothers. Please no religious themed items, animal toys or tshirts/sweatshirts/clothing/apparel.

Where can I donate?   You can drop off donations beginning in December out the front of the elementary school office. You’ll see a table there waiting for your goodies!

How does the day work?   We set up tables in the cafeteria and students will enter with their classmates at a designated time. They will shop and check out before they head back to their classrooms to wrap their gifts. After school is dismissed, once every class has shopped, students will have an opportunity to come back to the Boutique and shop for extra people on their list (it’s a maximum of 5 people during class time) or for themselves.

How does my child pay for their gifts?   A flyer will go home with your student along with an envelope to include some cash as well as their list of people to buy a gift for. Return it to school a few days before the Christmas Boutique.

What happens if we forget to send money or cannot afford it?   No problem, Santa has provided us with special Santa Cash for students to spend on the day. Easy as that!

Is this a fundraising event?   This is not a fundraising event. Our cookie dough fundraiser helps pay for this event as well as the ticket price. We aim to not make money on this event and the ticket price is to cover the costs only. If we do make any profit it rolls over into other events, programs or activities.

How can I help?   Keep an eye out for an email requesting volunteers for the day before setup, the day of and cleanup. We need a lot of help so we’d love to have you!
